Liposuction of the Face and Neck
Fluctuations in weight and the normal aging process can leave excess fatty tissue in the cheeks and around the chin and neck. This excess tissue often causes a sagging of features and creates a tired appearance. For many patients, liposuction of the face and neck can make a significant difference in their appearance and self-confidence.
Excess tissue in the face and neck is surgically removed in a process called liposuction. During this procedure, Dr. Schaler injects the tissue with a combination of fluids and a topical anesthetic, which aid in the removal of excess fat and also reduce pain and swelling in the area. The excess tissue and much of the fluid are then suctioned out of the area. This process removes fat cells to sculpt and restore the facial appearance. Provided the patient follows a healthy diet and exercise plan, he/she should not experience excessive fatty tissue in that area again.
During recovery from this surgery, patients may experience some bruising and swelling. Most patients may return to normal activity within two weeks. Full benefit of the surgery will not be completely seen for several weeks, because it takes time for the tissue to heal and for swelling to go down.
